Sometimes a window will develope a cloudy or foggy look that cannot be cleaned from the inside or outside. I see this too often while cleaning windows in Marion, Ohio. This is because the cloudiness is between the panes of glass.
Most windows are constructed with two panes of glass. The glass is separated with a spacer bar and then sealed. The trapped air acts as insulation. This is reffered to as “Insulated Glass” or “Thermal Pane Windows”. Over time this seal can fail, allowing moisture to enter the space between the glass, which causes the cloudy or foggy look.
Who’s fault is this?
It could be a manufacturing defect caused by poor initial design or poor workmanship during manufacturing. So possibly this would be covered by a warranty. Most likely the windows have just reached their engineered life span.
What can be done?
There are processes that can remove the moisture and clear up the glass, but these are expensive and it is usually best to just have the window replaced.
I hope this information was helpful. Stay tuned for more questions to be answered about your windows.
